#MyBeautyIs... {week 6}

Goofy

I LOVE to laugh! I have always been a silly person, cracking jokes whenever I can. And since having all of my boys, there is only more to laugh about. Having children has only made me sillier. We love to dance, make silly faces, and make fools of ourselves for the sake of a good time.

Thank you all for joining me on this mission to celebrate the beauty within us!

Friday Feature- Rebel Skein {Sale}

Hello lovelies! Today's Friday Feature is a shop I have been admiring for quite some time. Trini's Crochet, who is undergoing a name change to Rebel Skein, makes these lion hats that are simply adorable! I have had my eye on them for some time. But that's not all she makes! I'll show you. Are you ready? And don't forget to check out the discount she is offering.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
My name is Kat. Trini is a nickname my Abuela gave me as a child. My Abuela came to America from Cuba back in the 1950's. She taught me how to crochet, and I can remember spending weekends at her house crocheting doll blankets and Barbie clothes while we watched Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. They are some of my fondest memories. I dabbled in crochet throughout the years, but after my second son was born is when I really picked it back up again. It was really difficult finding cute accessories for my boys and I realized I had the ability to not only make them for my own kids, but for others as well.

2. Tell us about your business. What do you make? What are you all about?
My niche in the crochet world is funky hats, though I don't necessarily limit myself to just hats. A lot of my inspiration comes from some of the more obscure animals out there...hedgehogs, sloths, koalas...I started out making these things for kids, but I get a lot of adults who want them as well. I'm an animal lover and it makes me really happy to celebrate all the little critters out there through my work.

3. When and why did you start your business?
I started my business about 14 months ago. My second son was 4 months old and I wanted my boys to have cute accessories. As far as clothing there isn't always a lot of stuff out there for boys.

4.What inspires you?
My love of animals inspires me. I feel like my work is a way to pay tribute to them.

Veggi Painting

Want to spruce up craft time? The littlest change can make craft time a fun new experience. We simply exchanged paint brushes with vegetables. We just used broccoli and celery because that's all we had (it was just about grocery shopping time) but can use just about any veggi or even fruit! They make fun stamps and the leave create an awesome brush! It is a lot of fun and great for their fine motor skills.

#MyBeautyIs... {week 5}

My Perseverance

As I had mentioned in my last blog post (my late entry to #HandmadeSaturday), my family and I have been sick. On Wednesday morning my 4 year old son, Cooper, woke up not feeling well. Of course, as a mom, a sick kid breaks your heart. I was further worried as we were due to leave for vacation on Sunday. This was not just any vacation, it was our very first family vacation that every one of us were incredibly excited. And with a family of 6, an illness is bound to make it's rounds. Then after nap time, it was evident Cooper had pink eye. (Nooooo!) So off to the doctor we went. Poor booger had an ear infection in both ears on top of pink eye. But the doctor assured us we'll be fine by vacation time. Of course pink eye made it's way through the littles. But we were all cured by the time we were heading to San Diego
Vacation was PERFECT! We had a blast!

But on the last day of vacation, I woke up feeling sick. But this was Lego Land day. No way will I miss it, nor make my kids miss it. So I powered through. And convinced myself I was better to the point I really did feel better until we got back.
Now that we are back we all have or had the flu. And I apparently failed at sanitizing before we left because my 1 year old found pink eye again and kindly gave it to me with the cutest game of peek-a-boo (worth it!). So back to persevering. There are no sick days for mommahood.

Thank you all for joining me on this mission to celebrate the beauty within us!

Friday Feature- Violet's Buds {Giveaway + Sale}

I am beyond excited to bring you our next Friday Feature. Violet's Buds is not only amazingly awesome with beautiful products, they are also celebrating their 3rd anniversary! How wonderful is that? At the end of this post, you will find TWO giveaways AND and discount code. Melanie of Violet's buds has been generous enough to offer a sweet discount and giveaway in addition to the multi-vendor giveaway taking place on her blog! Please join me in thanking Melanie and Congratulating her on the 3rd anniversary of Violet's Buds.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
Hi, I'm Melanie. I'm a 30-something wife and SAHM with an almost 4 year old daughter.
I have a degree in Photography with specialization in portraiture, but currently only do portrait sessions a couple times per year for friends and family. My passion has become making art with fabric in the form of hair accessories and hoop art decor pieces.
My hobbies are reading, photography, cooking, and gardening. I blog about recipes and crafts, and I love to share other small businesses and crafters.

2. Tell us about your business. What do you make? What are you all about?
Violet's Buds is all about cute handmade accessories-- for your hair and for your home.
My goal is to make eco-friendly accessories out of reclaimed, repurposed, and upcycled materials. I found buttons and jewelry at garage sales and thrift stores, and was given or traded for remnant fabrics. This allows me to reduce waste while creating something new. I am able to make unique pieces, however it does limit most of them to one or two of a kind.
3. When and why did you start your business?
When my daughter was an infant I wanted her to have lots of cute hair accessories and after buying several, I decided to try to make my own. I quickly fell in love with creating and made gifts for my nieces and other friends. With the encouragement of friends and family, I started Violet's Buds around my daughter's 1st birthday.

Violet's Buds will be 3 in March, and over the course of this time I've added hair accessories for all ages (because all women deserve to look good), fabric jewelry, lapel pins, wedding accessories, and hair bow holders. Most recently I have added hoop art decor to my line of accessories.

4.What inspires you?
I am inspired by my daughter, nature, photography, the fabrics I use, and by fellow crafters.

#MyBeautyIs... {week 4}

My hair

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to change my hair. I like to change up my look and usually it's done by a hair change followed by regret. I prefer when my hair is long and it's natural blonde color.
As a  child, my mom would never let me dye my hair despite my begging and pleading. She was intent on keeping my hair healthy and trying to help me embrace what is me. Of course, as a teenager, I was sure she was out to ruin my life! lol My hair was stick straight and almost white, it was so blonde. I know there are a lot of people who go to a lot of trouble to get their hair that color. But of course I wanted something different than what I was born with. As soon as I was 18 and "free to do what I wanted", I dyed my hair the darkest brown I could find. After a while regret started settling in and I wish I hadn't. I did it for the wrong reasons. It wan't for fun, I was trying to change what was me.

Why is it that we feel we need to change what we have? I have tried so hard to change what I was born with to exact opposite; blonde to black, straight to curly. Sure, spicing it up can be fun; change can be fun. But I think it is important to love what is naturally ours first.
I love my stick straight, fine, thin, blonde hair!

Thank you all for joining me on this mission to celebrate the beauty within us!

Friday Feature- Be You Not Them {Giveaway + Sale}

     Today's Friday feature makes the cutest signs! Be sure to enjoy getting to know Celeste and her lovely shop. You will also find a discount AND a giveaway below. How amazing right?! Enjoy.

      Tell me a bit about yourself and your background.
      My name is Celeste Beck and I am currently a SAHM with 3 kids and a fabulous hubby. My family and I recently relocated across country this past summer from NJ to TX. I have always enjoyed creating as far back as I recall and I can’t go a day without making something cute or handy. Family is super important to me and raising our kids right is priority #1 at our house.

      Tell us about your business.
My business name is Be You Not Them, my older kids and I came up with the name for the shop when we were brainstorming last year because it is a statement I am always making to my kids. I want them to grow up and make their own paths in life, not follow the crowd.

I mostly make wooden signs that are either personalized or consist of a special quote or song lyric. I LOVE reading and listening to music and I constantly see things that in my head are the perfect little “blurbs” that if hanging on your walls or sitting on your shelf would be great reminders to have a happy day ! I also love to crochet, so you will find some hats, scarves and accessories in the shop as well.

Custom orders are really great too! I love being able to turn someone else’s dream or special message into a tangible item that they can cherish!

      When and why did you start your business?
I originally started my business a few years ago in 2011, but with a crazy schedule and full time job my creativity had to take a back seat to my other responsibilities. With our move this summer and no full-time job to speak of, I thought this could be the opportunity that I had been waiting for. I honestly love to create things, and to my husband’s chagrin…..I am pretty much addicted to several different crafts. From drawing and painting to wood working and crochet – I’m afraid if I don’t try to sell some the things I create I will end up on an episode of hoarders ( a new craftaholic edition) J lol.

What inspires you?

Oh my, what doesn’t inspire me! I think the most inspiring things in my world right now are  1-My relationship with my husband- he is so supportive of all my lofty dreams.  2-My kids and raising them to  pave their own way as individuals – I’m sorely tempted to make a sign for every quote I’ve ever read or lyric that struck home and just bury their walls in inspiration! Also – Music, books, and bright colors and pretty patterns.

#MyBeautyIs... {week 3}

Optimistic

I am a glass half full type person. I haven't always been. In fact I used to be overly negative. I complained just to complain. Ick right?! I pushed myself to be more positive. In fact, I won't let myself even say "half empty". It sounds silly, but it works.
I was going through a rough patch when I moved from California to Arizona. I was 19-20 and didn't know anyone. I am incredible shy so meeting new people wasn't easy for me. I was terribly lonely and slightly depressed. There were also some financial hardships that come with being 19 and a full time worker and student.I told myself to find the positives. Lows happen for a reason. And to be that low and that sad, must mean something amazing is about to happen and I need to be able to fully appreciate it.
Low and behold, right after my 21st birthday, I met my husband. Ever since then we have been happy. There have, of course, been bumps in the road. But we stay positive. Focus on the GOOD that makes life amazing.
Carpe Diem

#MyBeautyIs... { week 2 }

BEING A MOM

Being a mom is means embracing a lot of changes. For instance, with 3 toddlers in the house, I get about 2 hours to myself on a good day. Assuming no one wakes up early. I have to make a choice on how to utilize this time. Do I take a shower? Do I get some sewing done? Do I catch up on some house work? So, sometimes I skip the shower. Hey, it's a dirty job!
I may smell funny sometimes, I have scars from 3 c-sections, stretchmarks, and excess skin. But being a mom is the most beautiful thing about myself. It has pushed me to grow and has taught me to love deeper than I had ever thought possible. These marks on my body tell a story. I need to try and remember this when I am looking in the mirror. Without these marks and scars, I would not be who I am today.

Thank you all for joining me on this mission to celebrate the beauty within us!
